all began when Chantal Akerman asked me research
jewish music for her film "Histoires d'Amérique"
(American Histories), a music with very deep and
ancient roots that accompanied the jewish people
troughout all its wanderings.
I then listened to liturgical songs, I researched
and found recordings of traditional jewish folk
music, ... It is through the wealth and the beauty
of those discoveries that the idea for this cycle
was born.
A music where the mundane and the sacred intimately
blend. Happy or sad, quick or slow, be it prayer,
folksong or danse, it is always shared and intimate.
The hebrew songs are construed as dialogs with
God, dialogs always fraught with vicissitudes.
